We left Sydney at 10:30 am and finally arrived in Hanoi at 2:30 am (11;30 pm local time), after 14 exhausting hours of travel.
The first flight to Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) was fine on Vietnam Airlines, but we were held up for over 2 hours waiting for the next plane to Hanoi. While waiting we chatted with a well-travelled Aussie couple who gave some shopping tips for HCMC.
The flights were good with plenty of food and space to stretch out. We watched the movie Firewall on the plane but it was a bit disappointing especially with the crappy headphones provided.
Pickup & transport to Sunny Hotel was fine. The room was air-conditioned, but not the rest of the hotel! Moved to a suite instead of 'executive' as we had booked.
Ric went for a walk to stretch & explore the surroundings.
The shops were still open but all the traffic lights were off so it was a real introduction to Vietnam driving - toot & dodge, everyone for themselves.
Frances meanwhile had a FULL body massage in the hotel.
